A Community Tradition That Just Keeps Getting Better
The annual Cotswold Downs North vs South golf game has always been a highlight on the estate’s social calendar, but this year’s event was on another level. In fact, many golfers (residents and non-residents alike) agreed that it was the best one yet. It was a perfect blend of community spirit, competitive banter, real estate chatter, and a whole lot of fun… and shots. Plenty of shots.
From the very first early-morning tee-off, the vibe was electric. You’d expect golfers to still be wiping the sleep from their eyes at that hour, but not at Cotswold Downs Golf Estate. These guys arrived in full party mode, laughing, chatting, playing games, and getting into the spirit with every sip (and every sour worm chaser, because someone forgot the lemons).
What stood out most was the genuine warmth we received. Residents, non-residents, and even golfers from Pam Golding and Wakefields were friendlier than expected. Everyone was just happy to be part of the tradition that brings the estate together every single year.
Where Property Meets Playfulness
As a real estate team, we’re used to talking about property trends, market performance, estate living, and lifestyle investment, but on this day, everything blended together naturally. A lot of residents used the opportunity to ask: “How’s the market doing?” and “How’s the year been so far?” And we loved it because there’s no better place to chat about Cotswold Downs property values, estate trends, and North Coast real estate growth than on a fairway with people who love this community as much as we do.
The snacks were a hit. The hugs were too. But the real entertainment came from watching golfers try to identify the village names within the estate. Turns out… even many long-time residents don’t actually know them. The novelty faded quickly, but the real star of the show?
The marshmallow-in-a-bucket challenge.
It was chaos. It was comedy. It was competitive in the most unserious way. With our “helpful” advice—“Just get it up!”—golfers tried every trick imaginable. Some succeeded, most failed, but everyone laughed, especially the older gentlemen who definitely appreciated the innuendo.
Celebrating Winners, Laughs, and New Connections
A golf day isn’t complete without prizes, and this year’s lineup didn’t disappoint. Awards included:
- Furthest Drive
- Closest to the Pin
- And of course, the big one: North Side Champions of the Day
The North proudly took the title and the bragging rights until next year.
After the official prize giving, the party didn’t end. We stayed at the bar, mingled with residents, met new people, and enjoyed the rare chance to hang out together as a Cotswold Downs real estate team outside of work. It brought us closer, sparked great conversations, and reminded us why we love working in this estate so much.
Then came our unofficial Smiths Property Group prize-giving. Armed with 20 bottles of rosé, we handed out awards, including:
- Worst Shot of the Day
- Closest to the Hole
- Funniest Golfer
- Marshmallow Bucket Champion
- Correct Village Name Guess
We may have used this as another excuse to chat, laugh, and connect with even more residents… but that’s what makes the Cotswold lifestyle so special. Community first. Always.
Why the Cotswold Downs Golf Day Matters
Events like the North vs South Day show exactly why Cotswold Downs remains one of the most sought-after golf estates in South Africa. It’s not just the championship golf course or the premium lifestyle. It’s the people. The energy. The sense of belonging. The effortless blend of family, fun, outdoor living, and luxury estate culture.
This annual event is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of community, connection, and the lifestyle that continues to drive strong Cotswold Downs property demand year after year. Whether you're a resident, a golfer, a future buyer, or just someone who enjoys the estate’s vibrant atmosphere, the North vs South tradition captures the true spirit of estate living.
And if this year was the best one yet… we can’t wait to see what happens next year.
